www.canadianlawyermag.com/inhouse 7 Fonds de solidarité names Janie Béïque as president Janie Béïque started her mandate as president and chief executive officer of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ on Apr. 1, replacing Gaétan Morin, who announced his plan to retire early in 2021. In 2000, Béïque joined the Fonds de solidarité FTQ as vice president, legal affairs and corporate secretary. She has since served in various roles, including executive vice president, investment, chief of investments and strategic investment initiatives. Béïque was previously a partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, focusing her practice on mergers and acquisitions and securities law. Former Stikeman MP joins Teneo Teneo, a global advisory firm working exclusively with chief executive officers and senior executives, has appointed a new senior advisor, Calin Rovinescu, who retired as president and chief executive officer of Air Canada on Feb. 15. In this non-executive role, Rovinescu will offer counsel to the firm's leadership team in Canada, support the firm's philanthropic initiatives and partnerships and engage in thought leadership activities with the firm's other senior advisors worldwide. For two decades, Rovinescu practised corporate law in Canada and the U.K. At the Montreal office of Stikeman Elliott LLP, he has served as managing partner. Kevin Thomson joins board of directors at Solaris Resources Kevin Thomson, formerly a senior partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, has joined the board of directors of the mining company Solaris Resources Inc. Thomson, who has more than 35 years of strategic experience with deals in the mining industry, is presently senior executive vice president for strategic matters at Barrick Gold Corporation. Since joining Barrick in October 2014, Thomson has dealt with strategically significant activities such as managing complex negotiations, dealing with complex legal issues and governance-related matters, developing corporate strategy and building partnerships with investors, suppliers and other business partners. CLOC appoints new president The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium has appointed Mike Haven as president. He replaces Mary O'Carroll, who led CLOC since January 2019. A long-time contributor to the CLOC community and a board member since 2019, Haven is head of legal operations and associate GC for Intel Corporation. O'Carroll is stepping down as president and board member because she is leaving her role as director of legal operations at Google to go to Ironclad, a contract lifecycle management platform and CLOC sponsor. She is leaving CLOC's leadership team to avoid a potential conflict of interest, but she will stay active within CLOC's community. Pam Hrick appointed general counsel at LEAF The Women's Legal Education & Action Fund welcomed Pam Hrick as executive director and general counsel. Hrick oversees daily operations and all legal matters including litigation and law reform work for the organization that aims to advance gender equality by supporting the rights of women, girls and gender-diverse people. She works with the board to establish a strategic plan for the organization. "This role was an opportunity to marry my passion with my profession," says Hrick. She joins LEAF from public law and litigation boutique Stockwoods LLP, where her work included advising survivors of gender-based violence. Former in-house lawyer joins Norton Rose Fulbright Jeff Landmann has joined the Calgary office of Norton Rose Fulbright LLP as a partner in employment law and litigation. Having been vice president, labour relations and governance, and director, legal and privacy officer at Westjet, Landmann brings valuable insights to his new role. He has broad experience in complex commercial litigation, including oil and gas, insurance, partnership and shareholders, commercial real estate, civil fraud and trademark disputes. In his new position, he advises employers in negotiation and preparation of employment contracts and severance packages, employment policies and procedures and employment standards.
