Tricon Starlight U.S. Multi-Family (No. 5) Core Fund In the US$1.4-billion deal, Tricon traded 50,779,311 shares for the outstanding limited partnership units of the fund. Quisitive Technology Solutions Corporate Renaissance Group Quisitive took all the issued and outstanding shares of the Ottawa-based Corporate Renaissance. Both are Microsoft suppliers. Barrick Gold Corporation Newmont Goldcorp Corporation Barrick Gold and Newmont Goldcorp concluded a joint venture, combining their Nevada mining properties to create Nevada Gold Mines, July 1. Canadian Natural Resources Limited Devon Canada Corporation Canada's largest oil and gas producer acquired $3.775 billion worth of Devon's assets in one of the largest upstream oil and gas M&As of 2019. Lundin Mining Corporation Yamana Gold Inc. Yamana Gold sold its Chapada copper mine in Brazil to Lundin for US$1 billion — the deal was completed July 5. Vistra Energy Crius Energy Trust In a deal closed July 15, Vistra bought the electricity and natural gas seller for $498 million plus the assumption of around $108 million of debt. FirstService Corporation Global Restoration Holdings, LLC On June 21, FirstService completed the acquisition of around 95 per cent of one of the largest commercial and large loss property restoration firms on the continent. Allied Properties Real Estate Investment 700 de la Gauchetière Street West and 1001 Lenoir Street On July 17, Allied REIT completed the purchase, worth a combined $402.5 million. Monarch Gold Corporation Hecla Quebec Inc. and Typhoon Exploration Inc. Monarch closed its acquisition of Hecla's and Typhoon's Fayolle property, located in the Aiguebelle and Cléricy townships in Quebec. Antler Gold Inc. Sona Nanotech Inc. Antler purchased mineral assets from Sona's Crescent Lake molybdenum, copper and silver mining project in Armstrong, Ont. DEALS Former VICE GC joins Bereskin & Parr Naomi Zener, a cross-border lawyer, joins Bereskin & Parr LLP as counsel. Her work involves drafting and prosecution of domestic and international transactional entertainment, intellectual property, commercial law, marketing and advertising and broadcasting regulatory law. Zener spent four years at VICE and has advised on commercial joint ventures, cannabis, privacy rights, labour and employment and copyright and trademark law. Zener is called in both Ontario and California and has a JD from Osgood Hall Law School and an LLM from the University of Toronto. Davies adds veteran tax lawyer Julie Colden left KPMG Law and KPMG Canada to partner up with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP. Colden advises clients on a wide range of tax issues and her practice focuses on M&A — both domestic and international — reorganizations, corporate finance and capital markets. Before KPMG, Colden spent 15 years with Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. She was called in 1997 and attended the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law. PEOPLE Joint venture creates world's largest gold complex Barrick Gold and Newmont Goldcorp have consolidated their respective mining properties in Nevada and created the largest gold complex on earth. Nevada gold Mines launched July 1. Initially, the pair will split ownership of the complex at 61.5 per cent for Barrick and 38.5 per cent for Newmont. The combined operations are comprised of 10 underground and 12 open-pit mines, two autoclave facilities, two roasting plants, four oxide mills, a flotation plant, five heap leach operations and produced 4.1 million ounces of gold in 2018.
