Emilie Taman
Professor, University of Ottawa Faculty of Law
Ottawa
A strong advocate for her local community, Emilie Taman is a fierce advo-
cate for refugees, publicly accessible libraries, representation by women,
progressive drug policies and governmental transparency. Her advocacy
has reached a wider audience through her award-winning podcast The
Docket, where she tackles some of the most sensitive legal and political
issues and positively impacts Canadian laws, the justice system, the legal
profession and civil society. Taman is currently a professor at uOttawa's Fac-
ulty of Law - Common Law Section. She spent most of her career before
that as counsel for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, where she
specialized in federal regulatory and economic crime prosecutions. She is
a former federal NDP candidate, running in both the 2015 federal election
and a 2017 by-election.
WHAT VOTERS HAD TO SAY:
"She deserves to be on this list for The Docket podcast alone. Smart, clever legal
mind and going to do good things in her political career."
