Snell was appointed Gen- eral Counsel to the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) in 2015 and chaired the CFA's Legal and Legislative Committee from 2011 to 2015. As General Counsel, he has been actively involved with govern- ment advocacy initiatives and on potential law reforms through his work with the Uniform Law Conference of Canada. He was appointed as a special advisor to the Government of British Columbia in the draing of BC's franchise legislation. Jennifer Traub Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP Mining Jennifer Traub's mining law practice has more than quadrupled in size in just a few short years. Due in part to this success, she was chosen to open Cassels Brock's Van- couver office and now sits on the firm's Ex- ecutive Committee and serves as Co-chair of the firm's Mining Group. Traub has played an integral role in managing some of the largest and most complex corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions deals in the Canadian mining industry. Her pro bono work includes Special Olympics BC and the Canucks for Kids fund, and she chairs the black-tie gala Daffodil Ball for the Canadian Cancer Society. Diane Yu VerticalScope Inc. Mergers & Acquisitions As Chief Legal Officer, Diane Yu leads all domestic and cross-border M&A transac- tions for VerticalScope on commercial, IP, litigation, human resources and technol- ogy matters. She manages more than 75 forum community acquisitions, corporate and regulatory matters, employment mat- ters, privacy and cybersecurity matters, marketing and litigation matters, and has been essential to the launch and growth of numerous new products. She is a past member of the board of Women in Capital Markets and a member of the Heather L. Main Scholarship Committee. LITIGATION Caroline E. Abela WeirFoulds LLP Corporate Commercial Litigation Specializing in complex business and es- tate litigation matters, Caroline Abela is also actively involved in the legal commu- nity. She is a member of the OBA Council and Chair of the OBA Executive, Estates and Trusts Section. As Co-chair of the International Private Client Commit- tee, American Bar Association's Section of International Law, she is also editor of the section's quarterly newsletter. She is a member of the Women's Law Associa- tion, was an adjunct professor at the Uni- versity of Western Law School and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Abela spearheaded the OBA's Make a Will Month initiative to provide access to im- portant information about Ontario's laws regarding wills and powers of attorney. Sandra Barton Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP Corporate Commercial Litigation Sandra Barton is a leading civil and com- mercial litigator whose wide-ranging prac- tice includes commercial litigation, class- action defence and defamation, product liability, trade-mark and copyright disputes. She represented Bombardier in its successful injunction application that resulted in an or- der enjoining Metrolinx from terminating its $800-million contract with Bombardier. Barton is a sought-aer mentor who has for- mally and informally mentored numerous young lawyers and law students at various law firms, including those from underrepre- sented communities. She is also an instruc- tor and lecturer, teaching trial advocacy as an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, and serves on e Advocates' Soci- ety's Board of Directors. Sarit E. Batner McCarthy Tétrault LLP Corporate Commercial Litigation Sarit Batner is a partner in McCarthy Té- traults Toronto Litigation Group and a member of the firms Board of Partners. She maintains a significant trial and appellant litigation practice with a focus on complex commercial litigation and arbitrations. Known for her incisive cross-examinations and litigation strategy, Batner provides advocacy and strategic advisory counsel to many valued firm clients.
