The global legal function has more than 200 lawyers from Singapore to Germany to Israel and all points in between. Young is the only lawyer in Canada and has been in the role 16 months. BARBARA SILVERBERG: Head of legal for Dell Canada in the job about eight years. She has a team of six — two lawyers, two paralegals, and two contracts managers — who do contract drafting and negotiating. LARA SPEIRS: Randstad is headquartered in Diemen, Netherlands and present in 40 different countries. She is the fi rst general counsel for Randstad Canada. Speirs runs a team of fi ve but is the only lawyer. She has a director of contracts and three others managing contracts. Speirs is also the chief privacy offi cer and manages public affairs at Randstad. ROBERT SOCCIO: Soccio is the only lawyer in Canada for Navistar Canada, but the legal department of the company consists of more than 20 lawyers. The company has operations primarily in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil. ALENA THOUIN: The general counsel and corporate secretary with Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank is the head of the legal function and holds the compliance role as well. Her department consists of three lawyers including herself. She is the fi rst general counsel within the organization and has been there there for two years .
