Stronger consumer spending and government investment will help boost real gross-domestic- product growth to 2.3 per cent. This positive forecast comes on the heels of a year of solid performance. "The most signifi cant economic impact has been the turnaround in the manufacturing sector, where shipments have jumped 17 per cent in the fi rst quarter [of 2007] compared to a year ago," says Craig Wright, vicepresident and chief econo- mist with RBC in Toronto. The food processing sector, which makes up 65 per cent of total shipments, has performed well. An improvement was also seen in shipments for the aerospace sec- tor, which should stand to gain further strength in 2008 as global air travel con- tinues to recover. Business prospects aside, larger law fi rms know that to be regional — and to be seen as being truly regional — means having people on the ground in all four East Coast provinces. "To be an Atlantic fi rm," says Miller, "it is essential to have a presence in Prince Edward Island."
