and senior corporate counsel, and that includes CLOs and VPs and directors of legal departments who do business inter- nationally or foreign companies who do business in Canada. We've set up this world summit to allow them an opportunity to share transnational legal and business issues. Q A What form will this summit take? It's going to be a two-day conference in Vancouver [held Jan. 25-27, 2009]and what we're going to offer is advanced, high-level discussion of a number of issues com- mon to corporate counsel, common to in-house practice, business development, and law department management around the world. It's predicated on the idea that Canadian corporate counsel often have more in common with corporate counsel from other jurisdictions than other Canadian lawyers in private practice. We're told by our members that they want the opportunity to network with these other lawyers. Q A What other corporate counsel associations will be involved? We've worked at the CCCA very hard over the last number of years on developing contacts internationally. It's a result of this that we've been able to involve associa- tions from all over the world, including: Australia (ACLA); Belgium (IJE); France (AFJE and Cercle Montesquieu); Hong Kong (HKCCA); Malaysia (MCCA); Mexico (ANADE); New Zealand (CLANZ); Singapore (SCCA); and South Africa (CLASA). We've had an incredible interest internationally in our world summit and, more and more, we've seen inter- est internationally in these in-house lawyers attending our Canadian conferences. We're very excited about that because our focus is to not only be reactive to our members' needs but to make sure that we're cutting-edge by bringing programs and services and benefi ts to our members before they even ask for them. Q A For the past few years, you've held the CCCA annual spring conference in Toronto. In 2009, it will held in Montreal. Why is that? That is a refl ection and signifi cant commitment and renewed focus on our corporate counsel members from Quebec. We think there is signifi cant growth potential for our association in Quebec and we acknowledge that we haven't always reached out to our Quebec members in a meaningful way.
