TECH SUPPORT BLACKBERRY BEATER? full QWERTY keyboard, gets an A+ for industrial design and a solid A overall from this reviewer. It's available from Rogers for as little as $250 (with a three-year, $75-a-month voice/data contract). One problem: it's not a BlackBerry. The Q 9h runs Microsoft's Windows M Mobile 6 operating system. Still, if you're an independent, or if you're con- sidering either switching to WinMobile or running both mobile e-mail sys- tems, add the Q 9h to your list, along with the excellent BlackBerry Curve. Like the Curve, the Q 9h is a Swiss Army knife. It receives e-mail, surfs the otorola's very cool-looking Q 9h PDA phone, a quad-band GSM/HSDPA model with a web, plays music, and takes pictures and video (two megapixels). For my money, the Motorola product has a slight edge. It's thinner — 11.8 milimetres to the Curve's 15.5 milimetres. I found the keyboard easier to use. Its 325 MHz processor is marginally more powerful than the Curve's 312 MHz chip; plus, it boasts four times the memory. It even, surprisingly, wins on battery life: nine hours of talk time and 30 days' standby, versus four hours and 17 days. Best of all, unlike Curve, it works on Rogers' new HSDPA network at near- broadband speeds for faster e-mail, web browsing, etc. Gerry Blackwell can be reached at gerryblackwell@rogers.com Department of Justice Canada Seeking Comments on the Third Series of Proposals to Harmonize Federal Law with the Civil Law of the Province of Quebec The Department of Justice Canada is seeking comments from stakeholders and members of the legal community regarding the Third series of proposals to harmonize federal law with the civillaw of the Province of Quebec and to amend certain Acts in order to ensure that each language version takes into account the common law and the civil law. The writing is clear and the site is cleanly designed and well set up, using a Google Blogger template. It doesn't draw a lot of reader response but looks to be an invaluable resource for other librar- ians and lawyers. RULE OF LAW (rulelaw.blogspot.com) Kelowna, B.C., sole practitioner Stan Rule has been blawging since 2005, cov- ering "British Columbia wills, trusts and estates law, elder law, and estate litiga- tion." The intended audience appears to be both clients and colleagues. Rule ana- lyzes and comments on recent cases, usually with a B.C. or western focus; talks about the local/regional judicial scene (personalities, etc.); and offers ad- vice on estate planning and other things. He posts every few days. The writing is a little too earnest and workmanlike to draw a huge readership — comments are sparse — but the content appears solid, and the site, created in Google's Blogger, is attractive. 26 M ARCH 2008 www.
