BLG HELPING TEAM RUSH TO THE TOP Mail in mid-November, he couldn't help but feel a certain rush of excitement. Team Rush, an international four-man bobsled team led by Saskatchewan's Lyndon Rush had taken the gold medal at Park City, Utah's opening World Cup W hen Borden Ladner Gervais LLP's Vancouver partner Doug Copland opened The Globe and them to purchase better equipment. They felt they were a really good team but that they didn't always have the best equipment to perform well with." At the end of last season, Rush had made a public pledge that with new equipment the team would take on the world. Copland says it is reward- ing to see the results of investing in a Canadian team "and know we played a role" in helping it achieve gold in its first win of the season. BLG won't say how much it's pledged as a sponsor. Nevertheless, it has tan- gible rewards such as the BLG name displayed on helmets and bobsleds plus the esprit de corps it builds internally as lawyers follow the challenges the athletes face daily in competing, train- ing, and obtaining equipment as the competition increases. The ice becomes harder with more competition, says Rush. "That could stand as a metaphor for anything worth achieving in life. We set our [sights] very high, and BLG's support makes it possible for us to perform at our high- est potential by providing the resources to engage in the rigorous training that is so integral to success. We hope to make BLG and the rest of Canada proud of us as we move into the next round of international competitions." Other sports-related initiatives of the firm include the BLG Awards, a national awards program that for the past 17 years has recognized top uni- versity athletes. — JS Shareholders Agreements An Annotated Guide Second Edition Aird & Berlis LLP Edited by Lisa E.
