University of Manitoba, Robson Hall Faculty of Law (Winnipeg, Man.) a fairly small scale. The school offers both an LLB and an LLM. The school boasts of its advocacy program, R which provides students with the skills needed to present their case. All fi rst-year students participate by prepar- ing and presenting an oral motion. Sec- ond-year students take things a bit further by prepar- ing and presenting a trial, after which they must carry it on to appeal level through a factum and oral argu- ment. Dean Chris Ax- worthy assumed his duties at Robson obson Hall admits about 100 students per year, keeping total numbers and class sizes on Hall last summer and has already set an important goal for himself and his faculty — to produce in- creasingly worldly and relevant lawyers. He told Canadian Lawyer in October that law schools and the legal profession are going through a skills evolution. "There's much less litigation and much more conciliation, mediation, and negotiation going on now. There's much of a focus on fi nd- ing solutions rather than allowing (cases) to end up in a court. Those skills are more in demand now than they used to be. We have to respond to that." Students have several organizations available to them if they're looking to round out their resume, including the University of Manitoba Legal Aid Clinic, where students can gain clinical experience working for low-income individuals in the com- munity. The faculty's web site lists over $470,000 avail- able in awards and bursaries. Canadian Lawyer was unable to compile the best features of the school due to a lack of responses to the survey.
