ne might wonder what
two lawyers know about
highly sensitive medical
imaging technology created to detect skin cancer, but Thomas Braun and Anna Trinh
bring business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit to Verisante Technology
Inc., along with a legal background that
has served them well.
Braun, who is chief executive officer,

cer and in-house counsel for the company, make up the senior management
team of Verisante, which was founded in
2006. Verisante has an exclusive licensing
agreement with the BC Cancer Agency
for the rights to market and sell a noninvasive skin cancer detection device
known as Verisante Aura. Earlier this
year, the company announced its first
sales of Aura in Canada and Europe
and it was recently installed for use in
clinics across Canada. Dermatologists

now have a scientific measurement of a
skin lesion that will allow them to determine in under a second whether a lesion
should be biopsied or not. The device
can go beyond what the naked eye can
see and clinical study results also show
Aura reduces the rate of missed cancers,
including melanoma.
When Braun started the company he
and his then-paralegal Trinh were still
practising law at Braun & Co., the firm he
started right out of law school and ran for
