In this role, she oversees the global legal team and sits on the Group Executive Committee. Douvas joined the bank in 2016 and has since served in increasingly senior positions, including as U.S. general counsel and global head of litigation. Most recently, she spent eight months as EVP and general counsel. Douvas has assisted with a wide array of litigation and regulatory matters, and has offered strategic advice to senior leaders across RBC's businesses and functions worldwide. ZSA boosts team with new managing partner Deloitte's general counsel emeritus, Ken Fredeen, is the new managing partner at ZSA In House, a platform created to focus on the challenges, issues and development needs facing general counsel and their teams. In this role, Fredeen supports ZSA legal recruiters in finding top talent and collaborating to create a more inclusive legal profession, particularly for legal professionals with disabilities. Fredeen previously spent 20 years as general counsel at Deloitte LLP, followed by one year as a senior partner at the firm, taking the lead on Indigenous and accessibility initiatives. Cindy Cross brings financial expertise to Interac Interac has announced the appointment of Cindy Cross as chief legal officer. Cross brings over 20 years of legal experience to the role, including expertise in financial services, licensing and regulatory matters for payment institutions, derivatives dealing and the world of cross- border payments and payment ecosystems. Cross joins Interac from Western Union, where she was responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of business legal affairs for all business units as deputy general counsel. She led a team of over 55 lawyers and paraprofessionals based across the globe. BMO lawyer returns to private practice Sandeep Joshi has joined Toronto-based litigation firm Tyr LLP as partner and head of the Investigations and Regulatory Defence Group. He left BMO Financial Group, where he spent seven years as associate general counsel and managing director of corporate investigations. Joshi is a seasoned litigator with extensive experience conducting complex, sensitive internal investigations and responding to business-critical, regulator-initiated investigations, as well as dealing with resulting class actions. Before joining BMO, Joshi practiced in the national litigation departments at Torys LLP and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Phil Shaer resigns from CLO role Phil Shaer has stepped down from his role of chief legal officer at Canopy Growth Corp. He led the legal department at the Canadian cannabis giant for close to six years and played a significant role in business development. Shaer submitted his notice on the day of Canopy's annual general meeting on Sept. 14. Canopy has appointed VP and associate general counsel James Wishart as interim chief legal officer until they find a permanent replacement. Shaer had not announced his next move at the time of publication. Carebook Technologies appoints lawyer as CEO Montreal-based digital health and virtual care solutions company, Carebook Technologies Inc., has appointed Michael Peters as chief executive officer. Peters has considerable legal and M&A experience, previously having served as vice president commercial development and associate general counsel, medical segment for Cardinal Health Canada and corporate counsel and senior director of corporate development at Celestica. In his role as CEO, Peters will oversee Carebook's suite of best-in-class products, which include the company's digital health and virtual care solutions, InfoTech's Wellness Checkpoint system and CoreHealth's flexible wellness platform.
