Deal closes for $550-million event centre in Calgary Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Ltd closed a deal worth $550 million to build an event centre in Calgary. The centre will replace the old Saddledome, which is home to the Calgary Flames hockey team. It will include an arena that can accommodate up to 19,000 people, in addition to commercial and retail spaces. Bennett Jones LLP acted for Calgary Exhibition and Stampede in the deal, which was made with the City of Calgary and the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. WestJet completes $5-billion sale to Onex Corp. Onex Corp.'s $5-billion acquisition of WestJet Airlines Ltd. is being dubbed "the largest private equity purchase of an airline in aviation history." MLT Aikins hires Christian Monnin Christian Monnin has joined MLT Aikins as a partner in the Winnipeg advocacy group. He previously held the title of managing partner at Hill Sokalski Walsh LLP. In his new role, Monnin is practising in the areas of commercial and civil litigation and labour and employment law. He has extensive experience handling a wide range of large and complex matters, representing clients from a broad range of industries. His practice extends to constitutional and public law, international and domestic commercial arbitrations, as well as administrative advocacy with an emphasis on regulatory matters and labour law matters. Canopy Growth and Drake launch More Life Growth Company Canopy Growth Corporation and Drake have announced various agreements to launch the More Life Growth Company, a fully licensed producer of cannabis based in Drake's hometown of Toronto. In connection with the launch of the More Life brand, More Life Growth Company, a previously wholly owned subsidiary of Canopy Growth, has issued shares to certain entities that are controlled by Drake. Following the issuance of the shares, Drake holds a 60-per-cent ownership interest in the More Life Growth Company, with Canopy Growth retaining a 40% ownership. ATCO Group completes sale of Canadian fossil fuel-based electricity portfolio Canadian Utilities Limited (an ATCO company) completed the sale of its entire Canadian fossil fuel-based electricity generation portfolio for approximately $835 million.
