managing partner
BCF BUSINESS LAW,
MONTREAL
BCF LLP partner Pierre Allard
was the unanimous choice of
the Quebec law firm's partners
to succeed Mario Charpentier
as managing partner. BCF LLP
ranked third in Canadian Lawyer's
2018-2019 "Top 10 Quebec
Regional Firms," and we asked
Allard about his plans for the firm.
What was the impetus for
forming BCF Business Law?
BCF was founded in . . . 1995 by a
group of lawyers from large firms
who decided to combine their
expertise to do things differently.
BCF's success has been our com-
mitment to . . . help entrepreneurs
thrive and achieve their business
ambitions.
Can you describe your
career trajectory?
I have been a tax lawyer for
almost 25 years and I have
always worked at BCF Business
Law. I am technically BCF's first
articling student; I was even
recruited before the firm was
officially founded! It was Mario
Osgoode's

Charpentier who recruited me. He was a
tax lawyer, and I wanted to practise tax law
like him. So, I went from articling student to
lawyer, partner, member of the executive
committee for 13 years and, finally,
managing partner.
What do you anticipate doing as the
managing partner of BCF?
We established a five-year strategic plan al-
most three years ago, and it is already nearly
complete. . . . Our goal was to prepare for
the 21st century and the significant chan-
ges in our industry. To do so, we have made
technical investments (software updates,
processes, etc.), and we are now in the
change management phase.
What's most interesting about work-
ing in business law in Quebec today?
We must use artificial intelligence for more
efficiency, to provide the same quality at a
more competitive rate and while maintaining
our profit margins.
