Tedesco served as commissioner of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, was a member of the federal Financial Institutions Supervisory Committee, an ex-officio board member of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, a board member of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and chairwoman of the International Financial Consumer Organisation. Tedesco's practice will entail advising clients on financial regulation and serving as counsel to sectors subject to market requirements, according to a McCarthy Tétrault press release. Sébastien Richemont joins Fasken Joining the partnership in the litigation group, Sébastien Richemont has more than 20 years in the practice, spending the beginning of his career at Woods LLP, focusing on litigation, arbitration and insolvency. Richemont also works as a lecturer and professor in a training program sponsored by the Université du Québec à Montréal — a 15-hour training seminar for lawyers. Throughout his career, Richemont has led several manufacturer's liability class actions and has "been at the forefront" of numerous mandates in information technology, energy, securities litigation and defamation, according to a Fasken press release. PEOPLE Canada appoints first pay equity commissioner The Canadian Human Rights Commission has tapped Karen Jensen for the brand-new role of pay equity commissioner. Formerly practice group leader of Norton Rose Fulbright LLP's labour and employment practice, Jensen has practised in human rights law, constitutional law and labour and employment law and has advised organizations on sexual harassment, compliance with domestic, international and constitutional human rights standards and professional misconduct. Jensen was assistant dean at the University of Ottawa's faculty of law and adjudicated and mediated human rights disputes at the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal from 2005 to 2009. "The new pay equity commissioner will help ensure that everyone within federal jurisdiction receives equal pay for work of equal value," said chief commissioner Marie-Claude Landry in a CHRC press release.
