She has been present in the national news for months as she and B.C. Premier John Horgan battle over the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline. She has butted heads with fed- eral NDP leader Jagmeet Singh over the pipeline as well. Notley has sup- ported Trudeau's proposed purchase of the Trans Mountain Pipeline and advocated for a carbon tax in Alberta. Notley stood up for Fort McMur- ray wildfire victims by threatening to change the Alberta Insurance Act if insurance companies did not offer extensions for their claims. She has added to "male" and "female" a third option, "x", for all vital statistics records to promote the rights of transgender people.
