Although each organization has a different mandate, we unite in our commitment to reduce disparities in the delivery of legal services, build community capacity, and help level the playing field so that everyone in Canada can benefit from the justice system. Our organizations work to support those who are likely to experience inequities linked to poverty and income, language, geographic location, ability, gender, sexual identity, Aboriginal identity and race, and other barriers to accessing legal services. Each year our organizations collectively impact hundreds of thousands of people in Ontario. Together, we are making the justice system more accessible and helping people deal with legal conflict in their lives. We: • Build legal capability in young people; • Deliver preventative programs for women, children and youth; • Provide information to help people understand their legal problems; • Offer assistance and support to unrepresented litigants; and • Fight for the civil liberties, human rights and democratic freedoms of people in Canada. Of course, the five Flip Your Wig members are not alone in this work. We wish to recognize and honour the many organizations and legal clinics across Canada working to fill the gaps in legal services faced by low-income and, increasingly, middle-income Canadians. We hope this edition of the Flip Your Wig for Justice Magazine will serve to draw attention to some of the individuals and organizations working for change, and that it will inspire our readers to either begin or expand their efforts to take action for accessible justice. We would also like to thank our dedicated volunteers and contributors who helped make the Flip Your Wig for Justice Magazine possible, including: Nicole Aylwin, Sabreena Delhon, Lauren Der, Trevor Farrow, Christopher Ferguson, Kyle Gershbain, Karen Gross, J. Adam Huggins, Tory James, Liana Miglin, Samuel Pereira, Andrew Ryan, Milosz Skowronski, Michelle ompson, Jacqueline Tucci, Tamar Witelson, and our marketing partner, PUBLIC INC.
