PROFILE Google it Google Canada's Jacob Glick helps keep the Internet 'awesome.' By Vawn Himmelsbach It's a Google world out there — Google Search, Google Maps, Google Docs, to name a few. Google has even incorrectly become a verb, as in, "I'll Google it." The Internet is constantly evolving, and Google itself must con- stantly evolve to maintain its relevancy. Google's informal slogan, "Don't be evil," means this is a company where cultural fit is an essential part of the job. Jacob Glick, senior policy counsel with Google Canada, is young, likes Mel Brooks movies and biking along the Ottawa River Parkway, and is a new dad. He's a lawyer, but he also has a passion for technology — in fact, it's his hobby. He tweets, he blogs, and he advocates for the open Internet. In one submission he wrote to the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission on behalf of Google, he urged the CRTC to keep the Internet "awesome." It's a role that not every lawyer is cut out for, but Glick seems like a perfect fit. Through high school, he worked at an Apple Macintosh dealer in Waterloo, Ont., and later at the Newton Store in Toronto. And, even as a kid, he was animated by ideas of fairness, democratic participation, and the words of the Canadian Charter of I've been here three and a half years, which I think makes me an old-timer by Google standards.
