Before my tenure as editor, Canadian Lawyer was ahead of the media curve. It launched a blog long before that trend came and went. Its email newsletter began delivering timely news to lawyers years ago, directly to where they spend so much time: their computers and phones. We have continued to innovate while remaining true to our original mission: to deliver unbiased reporting and analysis of the legal landscape from coast to coast. Another aspect that remains unchanged is that Canadian Lawyer appears in print. Print is where readers can read analytical, long-form analyses of issues that do not disappear in days. It is also more immersive than websites, Twitter feeds and emails. This year, we will continue to provide our readers with this content in print, but we have launched a digital equivalent that is much more than a website. We have unveiled a unique interactive digital content (IDC) collection designed to immerse users through active engagement. IDC is a new platform that our publisher, Key Media, has launched for all its brands. "IDC is on the cutting edge of online publishing," Key Media CEO Mike Shipley said. "Key Media is proud to be one of the first media publishing houses to embrace this new technology." The message we are delivering to our readers will be the same as in print: Spend some undistracted time with us, and Canadian Lawyer will provide you with an immersive experience related to your chosen profession. Our print frequency will be reduced, but our content will be just as rich and plentiful. For example, our legal reports may now have interactive graphics to demon- strate a trend, and our profiles of leading lawyers will have videos alongside their written insights. None of these technologies are especially new in isolation. Still, when they are put together with our readers in mind, the result provides a space that encourages engagement and reflection – in which lawyers can feel proud of and connected to their profession. We hope you enjoy our new direction and, as always, please reach out to let us know your thoughts.
