www.canadianlawyermag.com 41 Business PETER SIMEON Partner, Gowling WLG, Toronto Peter Simeon is a partner and the co-head of Gowling WLG's cannabis group, a multi-disciplinary team of more than 100 practitioners, which advises clients on matters ranging from initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, intellectual property and regulatory matters. From the very beginning of what is now a booming cannabis industry in Canada, Simeon has been very involved and at the forefront. He has acted on some of the leading transactions in the space. Simeon took the initiative to organize this group and bring together a team of Gowling WLG lawyers from across the country and in different practice areas. He has provided many presentations to issuers, investment banks and stock exchanges. Simeon's clients include several publicly listed cannabis companies, as well as investment banks and cannabis investors. Business MATTHEW PETERS Partner, McCarthy Tétrault LLP, Vancouver As McCarthy Tétrault's National Innovation Leader, Matthew Peters is a driver of change in the firm and legal industry. He leads the firm's initiatives around innovation, new lines of business, client services, pricing and service delivery, as well as the firm's client satisfaction measurement program. One of his most impressive achievements was the development of MT>Divisions, a series of new business lines within the firm that help grow its customer base. In 2018, MT>Divisions launched two new businesses: MT>Align, a lawyer-on-demand model unique to Canada and unlike any other offering in the country; and MT>Play, an advisory services startup focused on the lottery and gaming space worldwide. Most recently, MT>Divisions launched MT>iplus, which provides immigration-related services in a new way. More divisions are coming in 2019. Peters launched a centralized opportunity pipeline called Client Connect. He introduced a custom-built fee analytics tool in 2018.
